RMA Time 2015 is a year full of changes for the mid-Atlantic region. I will be ending my term as Region Director in July. Brad Davis will take over as Region Director at the leadership conference. Michael Levey of Columbia chapter will join the region team as Chapter Advisor, filling the position vacated by Brad.

For the first time, our region will join the Northeast region to host the Region Leadership Conference. The conference will be held in Philadelphia on July 17 and 18. Click here for details: http://www.arma.org/r1/conferences/leadership-and-development-conference. Each of the 15 Mid-Atlantic chapters should be represented as well as the Northeast region chapters. ARMA HQ is organizing the conference, with the region teams’ input.

Mid-Atlantic Chapter Advisor, Al Minnick, has been working all year with ARMA members in West Virginia to charter a chapter there. Due to the spread of membership throughout the state, we are proposing a virtual chapter. The concept is to hold on-line meetings so that members can participate virtually. The goal is to have the potential new chapter also represented at Leadership conference.

Our region will also be sponsoring a CRM Workshop the day before Leadership Conference this year. Details and registration information can be found here on our region website.

Please contact me if your chapter needs any assistance from the region or if you have any questions.

See you in Philly!
2014 Mid-Atlantic Leadership Conference
Leadership Conference
The Northern Virginia Chapter is pleased and excited about the opportunity to host the 2014 Region Leadership Conference in Fairfax Virginia, “Where history is neighbor to the future.” We have arranged a convenient venue near Dulles International Airport less than five hours drive from two-thirds of the Region’s chapters. Thursday is an optional CRM workshop with a welcome reception that night. A Friday outing is planned for Wolf Trap.

The Conference will be held in Holiday Inn Chantilly - Dulles Expo Center. Northern Virginia is next door to our nation's capital - Washington, D.C. - yet has kept its own character reminiscent of colonial times, rambling plantations, equestrian farms and cobblestoned streets leading to quaint taverns, chic shops and historical gems. Fairfax County is a treasure trove of historic sites, museums, and performance venues. Washington D.C. museums and national monuments are a short drive away.

North Myrtle Beach Training, Waves and Tropical Storms

The Mid-Atlantic Region Conference “Catch the Wave” was held last week at the Beach Cove Resort, beachfront in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Each attendee could view the beach and multiple pools from their hotel room and the conference room area. The first day it almost seemed like a cruel joke. Bring us to this lovely resort, and just let us look out the window. We could see sun bathers at the pools and beach, there were floats in the lazy river, surfers in the sea and partiers in the hot tubs. We were in a conference room with floral carpet and neutral walls.

Yet, once we started the sessions that neutral conference room livened up. The conference started with a key note speaker that motivated everyone into “Become a Better Me”. The day was wrapped up with an interactive teambuilding and leadership exercise to teach us about barriers to communication. The second day included the chapter forum where we compared successes and issues within each chapter, broke out into working groups and came back together to make recommendations. Our region webmaster wrapped up the second day with good news. Also included were updates regarding the region business, HQ, ARMA Board of Directors and AIEF.

We also had an uninvited attendee at the resort. Her name was Andrea and she caused quite an excitement. Her full name was Tropical Storm Andrea. Just as everyone was settling in for the conference we learned that a tropical storm was heading straight towards us. She brought with her some wind, heavy surf and a good bit of rain. Luckily, it was not too serious and there was no damage at the beach. By the second day, she had blown right past us.

If you missed the region conference, you did miss great sessions and networking. Copies of the presentations can be sent to chapter presidents if requested. Next year’s conference is being planned as we speak. Two chapters have expressed an interest in hosting. Look for information next month about the options.
